– Freeport, Il – by Annarae – On Tuesday, February 17, over two hundred people braved the icy cold winds to enjoy good food, MRC 200xfellowship, and to help a worthy cause, the renovation of the former St. Francis Hospital.  This event was held in the lovely facilities of the First Lutheran Church in Freeport.  We are grateful to Pastor Keith Johnson and to the First Lutheran Church community for allowing us to use their facilities, not only for this event but for graciously allowing the Sisters and the various committees to hold their monthly meetings there.

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), our “Blue Nuns” held a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for their project, the Madonna Renewal Center, which will be a place of healing and hope to women.   To say this event was a success would be an understatement!  A steady stream of hungry folks kept all the volunteer kitchen crew busy the entire time.  Everyone raved about how wonderful everything tasted and many asked when the next dinner would be held.  Spaghetti, meat balls or sauce, salad with a tasty Italian style dressing, garlic bread and a beverage made a filling and oh, so enjoyable meal, or perhaps I should  say feast.  This was all topped off with an array of desserts that filled over two long tables from which one could pick a generous portion of cakes, cookies, or pies.  Trust me, no one went away hungry!

Plate 200xThe Sisters went around the room talking with those who attended; they also had several posters and pictures on display that showed their previous projects and some of the history of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Many thanks to the Freeport and surrounding communities for their support and encouragement for this project.

Everyone who volunteered to help in any way, wore a blue shirt so one could identify a MRC worker and see how many people of our community are supporting the Madonna Renewal Center in some way or another, from  young children to senior citizens. It was heartwarming to see so many people working to support this cause.

Each and every volunteer did a fabulous job and we look forward with great anticipation to the next event.

Below you will see a video of this event and you will not only see the awesome volunteers who made this event possible, but you will hear some of the Sisters express their gratitude and delight at the participation of so many people.
